I’m here having reasoned conversations with thoughtful people. I left the karma farming behind on reddit, and I don’t miss it. I can’t lose.

The word “see” predates the concepts of neurons, chemicals, and photons by thousands of years. We see objects, not light.

The word “see” predates any concept of rods or cones or photons by thousands of years. It has nothing to do with those things.

That’s not what the word “see” means. You’re trying to to swap it for another word like “sense.” You see objects, not light.

The light that enters your eye carries enormous amounts of information with it. Your eye and a small portion of your brain comprise a highly specific tool for extracting a small subset of that information and processing it. The information you use is only related to the last object the light interacted with, not the light itself (with the small exception being the “brightness” - that has nothing to do with the object).

No one claims to hear the air in their ears rather than the violin that is being played nearby. That’s just not what the word “hear” means.

That’s not what the word “see” means.

Look around the space you’re in and notice that you can’t “see” the light, only the things.

The problem is, there is no way for only his supporters to feel the pain.

Except it does matter. A lot.

No, it won’t stop anyone from using whatever language they choose, but it will cause tons of confusion when they have to interact with the government.

If democracy and majority rule were the same thing, no new democracy would ever have a second election.

His elected position is not a possession. Taking it away is not punishment.

Being removed from office is not “punishment.”

Filtering spam is a long solved problem and completely trivial. I receive no spam on my self hosted email, and I spend no time at all working on that.

My old unused gmail account however… I recently logged in after more than a year. The spam folder had about 40 emails in it, and the inbox had more than 8000, all of which were spam. Google over self hosting is not a solution to spam.

There are good people in your life. Share good things with them and try to be as good to them as you can. Social media only amplifies the negative. Things are bad right now, but not all bad. Don’t despair.

I know it’s cheesy, but I really believe it: love is the answer.

Those non-voters matter a lot because Trump is acting like he has some kind of enormous overwhelming mandate, and there is no evidence to back that up.

That 49.8% is misleading - it implies that 49.8% of the country support him, but it counts only the votes that were actually cast. He only got votes from about 30% of eligible voters.

Of course we can’t know who all those non-voters wanted to win, but I’d rather not imply that nearly half of all americans voted for him.
