Yes that’s by design it’s literally a dissociative - that does not explain this behavior, at all. Also the research isn’t there for abuse, the only large scale studies have been from illegal street use, typically much higher quantity and much riskier quality than a clinical setting. Posting this is an extremely harmful claim to make regardless, but to do so with a “practical example” is not only incredibly offensive it has the potential to be profoundly harmful. IMO, people think this way because they’re trying to do the right thing, but the nebulous others are not. Deporting those others would make it faster and more acceptable for themselves to be approved. Clearing the queue and getting a glow up, for a ridiculous analogy. Fear leads to irrational choices. Telling people they’ll be 1000% more patriotic if you vote for them is an evil but successful tactic pandering to this fear.

For example, there has been an influx of conservatives to Idaho (the one in the article) from neighboring states like California and Oregon which they believe have become too “liberal” makes sign of the cross.
