The online card catalog my library uses recently added an “AI Research Assistant” feature. While debating whether to turn it on (we decided against), this blog post came up. tldr the assistant won’t return results for certain topics. The is Not Cool. That (and the fact the flipping assistant can’t even limit itself to suggesting resources available in our library) is a deal breaker, without even getting into other considerations.
Now, I was lucky in high school. I was one of the “good kids” with impeccable grades and a quiet demeanor, so when I shoved a kid down the stairs for pinching my butt, no one saw anything. (LPT: don’t pinch someone’s butt as they are going up the stairs. They have the high ground and might be startled. I’m still pissed at that kid. He was fine, we were only a few steps up.)

I’d think of it more as a way to lock in housing costs, rather than a way to buy a home. For example, I bought my condo 5 years ago. My apartment rent was say $2200/month including fees. My condo was $2000/month including fees, with a 15-year mortgage.
Five years later and my old apartment is listed for $3100/month. My condo is only $2200/month (fees went up).
I expect the spread to get worse over time.
Edit: not sure the cost would be lower enough monthly to justify the extra interest, but maybe there’s an edge case where it makes sense?

Re: tumbling classes I think I got similar benefits from being bad at roller skating as a kid. I learned to fall gracefully and often, and tuck your hands close to your body so no one runs over your fingers.
That’s my partner. I just shop hungry and ask him to check the refrigerator for me while I’m out.
We also have a shared grocery app, which works nicely.
I’ve been enjoying Kagi. You pay a monthly fee (there’s a free trial) and get good search results. You can even tailor the results to prioritize or deprioritize various sites. For example, I told it to never show me anything from Pinterest.

I learned about an expensive headset brand today. Their website was fun, their product is exactly what I want, and they have a 5-year warranty. The headsets come with spare ear pads. Never heard about them before today. I somehow trust they’re worth the price.
(Still ended up just buying new foam pads for my current $30 headset, but I was tempted.)
I thought the USPS was funded through usage fees/stamps.
We gave away computer parts on Craigslist a few months ago. It was a no-stress transaction and the receiver was a sweet old-school computer person building a basic machine for his kids to play Minecraft. Would do again.
My main use case is “hey, I need to make a change to this system I touch once a year. The documentation is thorough, dense, and I don’t know where to look. What button do I push to do Y?”
