So here’s what I don’t get. LLMs were trained on data from places like SO. SO starts losing users ,and thus content. Content that LLMs ingest to stay relevant.

So where will LLMs get their content after a certain point? Especially for new things that may come out or unique situations. It’s not like it’ll scrape the answer from a web page if people are just asking LLMs.

So besides the brownie points, im curious what having it open sourced will benefit. Not like you can fork it to run on a different OS. You can make some extensions but to do what? You can’t really tie it further in to the host OS unless you know of some undocumented Win32 APIs.

Airplane designs are constantly being updated just because the shape doesn’t have to be. Case in point, though developed in 1963, the latest generation of 747 (the 747-8i) started being delivered in 2012, with the last one in 2023, which is still relatively recent in airplane years.

For another example the B-52 was first introduced in 1955, but is on its 10th generation (B-52J) with updates to avionics as of 2020. So it doesn’t take much to find a good design and then just keep iterating and updating it.

It’s also not in Airbus’s best interest to try and quickly ramp up production as you can get the “Walmart gambit” where you sink in a lot of money, then the tariffs get removed, people crawling back to Boeing and you’re out a shitload of cost.
