  • LLMs are cool up to a point. It is pretty neat to see something imitate human speech so convincingly. But that’s it: neat. Like a phone shaped like a hamburger.

For me to be impressed beyond that, your thing needs to either do something that I can’t do better or do something i don’t want to do. I can write a pretty good grade 8 essay. I can summarize a paragraph. I can write a dirty limerick. I can complete my own sentence without punctuation suggestions.

When I want to create something, I want to do it myself. Putting my ideas in order and finding the words to say something meaningful is the fun part. Even when I write a work email or a cover letter, I’m not really interested in help. Either I have something to say (don’t want help), or I rattle it off in one go (don’t need help).

Microsoft, I don’t owe you my attention or my money. Make something useful that doesn’t suck. Impress me.

  • This is just people waking up to reality. Trump has the White House, the senate, the House of Representatives, and the courts. He controls the military and has already begun deployment to “democratic” cities. His buddy in Texas is redistricting to help him consolidate power, and I am sure Abbot is not the only one. Every move Trump makes is designed to cripple opposition to his regime. Republican states are purging voter rolls and enacting bullshit laws designed to disenfranchise people of colour.

Milquetoast democrats have made only the most pathetic gestures of opposition to Trump. The first genuine thing Trump ever said was when he expressed surprise yesterday at how little resistance he has faced from the left. Republicans were right about one thing: the American left is a bunch of pussies.

If more Americans think political violence is the only way out of the mess Americans made, it’s probably because they are starting to develop a vague but accurate understanding of what is happening in their country.

  • I know what you mean, but I think that a government shutdown would stop the country eventually. There is too much critical infrastructure that is run by the government. The civil service, no matter how much some people deride it, is the main difference between a functional country and somewhere like Somalia. Somalia should be a republican’s wet dream, right? Entrepreneurs can exploit any resources they want, they have no labour board, no safety standards, no corporate income tax. And yet, Somalia has so far failed to overtake the USA as a paragon of innovation and productivity. If anyone wants to see what a country with small government really looks like, they need only look at Somalia.
