If it’s doing what you need it to do, no reason to rock that boat! It is fun to try out other distros without distro hopping, just to see what’s out there. That’s what a good thumb drive is for!

Am I missing something, or did they just dress up a woman with a prosthetic leg to resemble an android, and remove the dressing around the prosthetic to “prove” she isn’t human?

Depending on which crypto, but yes. And the ASICs have a usable shelf life of just a few years, so I assume they are migrating to machines for AI processing as their ASICs need routine replacement.

Holy shit. I admire the camera guy for being able to hold the phone at all. I’d be running. I’d be crying, peeing, and running.

You know, the whole YMCA song he always used is starting to make more sense.
I would not be surprised to read a headline soon stating “Walmart to receive government subsidies for lost SNAP revenue.”
Regardless if SNAP has been funded.
I understand that the playbook focuses around a strategy that involves throwing as many wacky things at us dumdums as possible so that we lose focus, become jaded, and spread resources so thin that we can’t fully act against any single outrageous thing…
…but come on people. Is this what it takes to be truly evil? Because it sounds exhausting.
So, where are we now? We’ve gone from chunking spaghetti to distract from the files to reverse Uno using the files to distract from gaining full control of the military so that it would no longer matter what’s in the files?
+1 for Davinci replacing Premier (and its built-in Fairlight replacing Audition, for that matter).
However, it’s kind of weird that they say GIMP is a reasonable alternative to Photoshop, but RawTherapee isn’t for Lightroom.
And there is no mention of Illustrator.
The reason for that is, for those that use Illustrator as a part of their professional workflow, there is no viable alternative. There is software that can do some tasks the same, some tasks differently but at the same speed, some tasks the differently but take longer to achieve, and some tasks not at all. It’s those last two that make switching unviable for folks that use it as one of their primary tools for paying the bills
Again, I know it wasn’t mentioned in the article, I just thought it was strangely left out when just as poor alternatives to Photoshop were cited.
To be clear, I hate adobe. I hate windows (and apple). I’ve been trying to break completely free since 2011. I do revisit the available Linux software alternatives every few years, but never hold my breath. I even donate to projects that show promise. It’s just not there yet. To make a claim that it is, for anyone but hobbyists, is asinine.
So many people are in that same “would if they could” boat. But you can’t simply restructure your entire workflow if the resulting workflow doesn’t work.

Why send kids to re-education camps when you can just install camps where the kids already be!

What stage is after ‘owning more mechanical keyboards than you have excuses for using them’?

The new 40k lore drop is sick.

That’s the one, and thanks! My son and I got into Meshtastic as a hobby, and I guess ham radio was the next logical direction for our interest. It’s fun learning the science behind how it works.

Fun fact! I’m studying for my amateur radio technician license and learned that ham came from calling amateur telegraph operators’ sloppy work ‘ham-fisted’. The amateur radio community decided to lean into it, and thus the ham radio operator was born

I feel your pain with Ubuntu, though last time I used it was about a decade ago. As bad as it is (relative to some other distros), it’s still miles ahead of Windows. So, you’ve got that going for you!

Out of twins, one is heading for trade school, the other will have earned half her undergrad by the time they finish highschool, with plans to go pre-med. One will make a great living as an electrician and the other will drown in student loan debt for years. I’m equally proud and supportive of their decisions.
If a parent is disappointed that their child is going for a trade, the only thing this shows is that the apple fell far from an asshole tree.

I’d listen to your podcast.

I was recently swimming in that thought soup, myself.
In reality, the truth is somewhere in between. Yes, AI is taking real jobs right now, not a speculative future, but so are the economic issues.
There are just so many people suffering. Young and old, there’s not a demographic untouched by it. Plenty of blame to go around, for sure.
You love to see it.
