Sure, I could suspect it…but how can I try to troubleshoot it? Is there a way to see what blocks the desktop from locking the screen?

Because it’s Xiaomi. Everything Xiaomi NEEDS an app and cloud connection to share as much of your stuff as possible. It’s how they get cheaper selling prices to begin with.

Thanks! This is what I’m getting here. If I understand this correctly, this is a list of POSSIBLE inhibitors…not which one was triggered last time blocking the actual suspension right?
WHO UID USER PID COMM WHAT WHY >
Libvirt 0 root 77709 libvirtd shutdown Virtual machines need to be saved >
ModemManager 0 root 1183 ModemManager sleep ModemManager needs to reset devices >
NetworkManager 0 root 1087 NetworkManager sleep NetworkManager needs to turn off networks >
UPower 0 root 1896 upowerd sleep Pause device polling >
PowerDevil 1000 timonoj 2165 org_kde_powerde handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key:handle-lid-switch KDE handles power events >
Screen Locker 1000 timonoj 1878 kwin_wayland sleep Ensuring that the screen gets locked before going to sleep>
6 inhibitors listed.
lines 1-9/9 (END)
Having a second thought about this, it looks like Screen Locker might be the culprit. But I’m not completely sure. I really could see the desktop wasn’t even locked after a whole night. So maybe it failed to trigger? How can I look at…what’s inhibiting the screen from locking, now? Just like suspension, it works when manually triggered with Meta key + L.

Thanks. This is the first time I hear about this program, but it looks like it’s indeed the one taking over the pw credentials. I tried unsetting the variables, and hopefully it will stop bugging after a reboot.

Not for this one but hey Muzei is nice. You get new wallpapers daily (or whichever frequency you might wanna set) on anything interesting you. By default it’s art, but you can get additional plugins about whatever scratches your itch. I’m fine with it downloading daily landscapes from Bing (but without Bing getting to check at anything in my phone).

Anyone has a list of the Dell laptops? I have a Latitude 7350 Detachable with an intel core ultra 164U. I think I might be affected…but then again, I have it running KDE neon, so not sure if this is disabled at hardware level or if it will work on a different OS.

As already suggested, for portable media exFAT is the way to go. Might also need an additional package not immediately installed by default, but nothing a quick apt-get install or dnf install won’t sort out in a second.

They’ll make it requiring registration to enter a developer program or something to let you install crap.

Any ideas on Linux support?

From an outsider perspective, I think unless you get AOC now there’s not going to be much of a country left for another round sometime later… Bernie has spent his whole life with “maybe on the next one”. It will never be on the next one.

Thank you. I think this wasn’t there yesterday when i was intensively checking, or i must have missed it. This is the correct answer. Thanks!

Yes. It’s a permanent HWID license, associated to the hardware. No renewal needed, and it’s permanently associated to the hardware ID. If I reinstall the OS on the VM, it will reactivate without asking. And yet.

Yup. This is Win 10 IoT LTSC 21H2. Which should have updates all the way to January 13, 2032, if I’m not wrong. The HWID license is activated and attached to the VM. But…I’m getting a warning in Windows Update today.

Yeah…but in reality those things usually run their own CPU and firmware, which is undocumented, and you won’t catch a manufacturer dead releasing any documentation about it. This is a major roadblock.
What phones are adviceable these days for a daily driver? Is there any of them where ALL of the hardware does actually work? As in, most of the ones I’ve seen in the past had major bugs blocking from using either the mobile network, the camera, the sensors or just about everything that wasn’t just the screen and touch input. I have a spare Pixel 7 and a Pinephone Pro (that I never got to work too reliably) I keep around for possible testing of stuff.

I’m afraid with how insecure mobile networks are, modem manufacturers will never dare to open or document their mobile drivers to Linux. And we’ll continue to be stuck in this perfectly controlled and planned scenario.
Huh…first news of this. I’ll have to look into it. I love their non-internet stuff, like their power banks, air pump, screwdrivers and other small gadgets, but usually steer clear of their IoT things unless I know for a fact I can block them and use them offline.
EDIT: I’m not sure what other lite devices might not connect online. But the Mi Air Purifier 4 Lite website already shows “works with Amazon Alexa and OK Google”. So I guess this one is definitely online…
