That’s wishful thinking or hindsight at best. Bernie would not have won 2016. The voters at the time were already drunk on burning the place down.

Yeah that’ll be a nice waste of time for the lawyers who think they’ll be paid for doing a massive investigation.
Wtf. Complete gibberish. The idiot doesn’t even understand the direction of a transaction.
How can … Democrats paying some Bruce guy to play guitar… be an illegal campaign contribution. To the Democrats?
I have to wonder if he ever learned how a payment works. He grew up rich. Did he ever purchase anything from a store in which you get something and then pay for it by giving the store money?
Is he really on that level of stupidity?
This explains everything.
News on car sales are always presented as monthly or by quarter.
That way, everyone gets a participation trophy by breaking the records in the period that they actually deliver a new model to the tarmac.
I don’t blame the news outlets. Reporting on record car sales is kind of boring when the 1966 Toyota Corolla is still the most sold car.
I have no doubt that Tesla actually managed to peak for a while in the category “American sales of electric pick-ups trucks”.
It doesn’t seem so.
The actual interview referenced in the article is somewhat longer: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/08/magazine/bill-gates-foundation-closing-2045.html
From what I can gather there are at least 3 reasons to end it earlier:
It was always planned to have an end date. This was set before they even knew what they’re were going to do. They now have a clear plan, where they can say “a human life can be saved for this amount of dollars”, so they don’t need to wait for anything.
Bill Gates criticizes post-life foundations, stating that they’re in risk of getting eaten by administration costs. I don’t know about that, but it appears that he doesn’t trust others to as good a job as he wants to do himself.
Warren Buffett is doubling the contributions for the foundation, but only for as long as Bill and Melinda are alive. Gates is 69 years old, so blowing it all in 20 years seems to be a realistic timeframe if they want to take full advantage of Warren Buffett’s pledge.
Perhaps it’s time to remind people that the date of celebration of labour day in most of the world on May 1st. was chosen to commemorate the American Haymarket affair in 1886.
What do mean “how long”? It’s exactly what happened here?
It’s just another example of their incompetence.
They ought to be proud of labeling the tariffed products, so that customers could easier choose the domestic brands, which supposedly is the point of having the tariffs in the first place.
Attempting to hide it only shows that they realize how bad the tariffs really are.
Legally? You can kill them as well.
You just have to claim that you thought it was self-defense against what appeared to be a black man jogging around your house.
I like his suit.
It’s a jacket.
Speaking of books, my only experience with Linux in the 90s was seeing the Red Hat books. I don’t know anyone who actually made it work.
What stops them suspending the mid-term elections anyway?
They get concentration camps.
Maybe they should consider not paying taxes.
Yes sure.
Now, if you look at the change from the beginning of Trump’s first term where the tariffs were increased by 10% points (from 10% to 20%) and to the end of Biden’s term in which Trump’s tariffs were maintained, the imports dropped by 100 billion - regardless of COVID.
That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you want to talk about.
But… now Trump increases the tariffs by an additional 114% points. (From 20% to 134%)
Assuming there is a correlation between tariffs and imports, which is the very point of doing it according to Trump, that would mean that imports would have to drop 1140 billion. This is obviously not possible from a 400 billion import, so it’s essentially putting a full stop to all trades with China.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Well. It’s great that USA is not paying China, but… where does USA get stuff from then? 400 billion dollars worth of stuff not being available in USA will definitely cause all kinds of issues.
I think that is optimistic. Here’s another graph:
Look at this graph:
So… draw your own conclusions.
I initially wrote a long analysis, but then I figured that these numbers are quite big to fuck around with. We’ll find out soon enough.
Imagine if it’s a live stream, changing the plot as you watch dependent on your reaction.
At first it might be fun to see what happens if Frodo doesn’t throw the ring in the lava, but eventually you gotta ask yourself why you’re wasting your time in front of a screen watching weird cat videos.
By temporary and quiet, I think the previous poster means: The reason why there has not been more resistance or assassination attempts is that everone expects Trump to die from uninflicted causes soon enough. It’s not worth sacrificing your own life to see it happen sooner than later.
The entire world is a powder keg where everyone is hoping that the fuse goes out before it explodes. That is why nobody is stopping Trump. This includes the people in GOP who know fully well that they’re on the wrong path. You can tell because they’ve stopped blowing air on the fuse. Except for Vance and Elon. Those idiots want the world to explode.
Waiting it out is still a bad solution, because it will enable more to follow his example.
The amount of freshwater used globally is tiny in comparison to the salt water in the oceans.
In case we desalinated the entire amount of consumed freshwater and dumped all the salt from that in the oceans, it would be impossible to even detect a rise in the oceans salt levels, provided that it was distributed properly and not just dumped in one location.
Water is also a cycle. It eventually returns to the ocean one way or the other after we’ve used it. With proper planning, we could theoretically borrow the water and mix the salt back in when it’s returned to the sea.
