Since there are a lot of OptiPlexses with different specs I will give you a general advice for making home servers.

Use newest desktop you have and/or the one that took the least beating since you will need all the perfotmance and uptime you can get.

If you opt for used storage (like some hard drives you have), make them into RAID with redundancy (at lrast one possible drive failiure, preferably two if you can).

Also look for power efficiency, so if you have a laptop (and can add at least 2 drives in it for RAID) or a recent i3 or i5 dekstop (or even i7 if undervolted) that would be your best bet.

Also look for decent network interface card. Try to avoid 10/100mbit and look for 1gbit, though I doubt that old PCs can even push 1gbit. Also make sure that the LAN plays nice with linux.

For the OS, use something stable like debian, or if you want to thinker Alpine is fun and also really stable. Also Ubuntu Server is a solid choice.

When deploying services like a file server if you just want something that works (or at least should be easier than other options) YunoHost or CasaOS are your friends, but you can learn docker (or run without encapsulation) and nginx (or other reverse proxy I don’t care).

For a file server everyone has their preference, but I use SeaFile since it is crossflatform and simple with good integration.

How old are we talking?

• Anything before core iX series is not recommended to be used as a server (missing instruction sets, low efficiency etc.).It could still be used for fun projects like installing gentoo or old redhat with plasma 2.
• If you have Core iX cpu (preferably 3rd gen or newer) you xan host some services, but look into c/selfhosted if you’re interested in that.
• You could also experiment with Kubernetes and combine lots of bad PCs into one less bad PC.

In the end PCs are useful only if you can run useful sodtware on them, but besides nostalgia there ain’t much use I see in them.

Since people allready recommended Thinkpads and Elitebooks I can only add up on that.

If you don’t mind thinkering a bit you can buy old cromebook for really cheap. You can install linux on them and they usually have pretty nice screen, even if specs could be lacking (but for linux and web browsing it would be fine)

In my honest opinion Sony Xperia (1 or 5) lineup is best Android has to offer, especially with LineageOS.

Nothing is good if you like the design, but it is expiriencing enshitification at a rapid pace.

Samsung is a no go (at least flagships) for their size, AI bullshit and forcing Samsung garbage on you (Samsung account, Samsung appstore, Samsung pay, etc.) .

Motorola is ok imo, just not much support from Lenovo.

Pixel is huge, underpowered and google is ruining it day by day.

Ther’s a Python version… not sure why you would want that

Just guessing but maybe for different architecures like RiscV and PPC? It might still be possible to compile from source, but if you have python why not just take a shortcut

Would Edubuntu be a better fit?

LineageOS has the biggest library for supported devices afaik, and if you have a supported device you can try PostmarketOS which is Gnu/Linux based without any Android base, again afaik.

I just use RSS feeds for everything that interests me. some of them are hackernews, serveTheHome and opensource.com, but there are plenty more. RSS is so underated imo.

Watched it all the way trough and these are my honest critics:

1. ai voice + music makes it feel like someone is talking a bedtime story to me
2. first two sfx were a bit loud on my headphones so try and normalize the sound
3. ai voice made all jokes feel dull. You can make that work as a character. For example Fireship makes good videos without raising his voice.
4. Lastly you could skin the video and put all important stuff into a short under 1 min and if views are what you want that is your best bet imo.

Edit: and please make exposure lower on thumbnail. That is a tactic to get 5yo to watch the video, and they will click away in first 3 sec. If you want grown ups to click on that video make them know what they’re in for. (if a video is about Enemys and their AI make me know that; if you are chasing semi-sarcastic lazy gem dev persona you can draw some trash drawing in ms paint of red circle with angry face chasing the player on a black bg and name the video for example “Making AI (Arteficial Incompentence) For My Game DEVLOG x” )

I at least switched to Floorp for more customization options and funny name, but back then Floorp also had vertical tabs and side-dock before any other Firefox fork (afaik).
