  • The drama is that this is an entirely unnecessary step that adds extra work for the technician/owner that wants to change rear brake pads/rotors, which are a wear item.

I’ve been doing brakes on mine and my family’s cars for over a decade. It’s dramatically cheaper to buy pads and rotors and swap them myself, and if I do it myself I know that it was done right and there’s antiseize everywhere it should be. So now in addition to all the work of jacking the car up, removing tires, removing the calipers, depressing the caliper, cleaning the hub, coating the hub with antiseize, cleaning the guide pins, reinstalling and torquing everything to spec, I now have to get a battery/transformer/charger and wire into a sensor to tell the stupid fucking computer that the pads and rotors are new. Why can’t the computer use a position sensor to just detect that there’s now thicker material there? Why isn’t there just an option in the maintenance settings that you can press to say that you’ve done the work and to reset the maintenance interval? Fuck this shit, doing brakes is already a time sink if you live in the rust belt, and this system adds nothing but an extra cost or extra work to the person performing the work. There’s no safety gain from it existing, it’s fucking stupid.

  • The same app that has been plagued by facial recognition issues since its inception.

Fuck it, just don’t open the door. Ask for a real warrant signed by a judge and to see their ID, not a badge. Any chuckle fuck can buy a fake ICE badge for 50 bucks.

If they refuse or argue, call the cops and say there are masked men loitering on your property and you fear for your safety.

If they try to enter, well I’ll leave that up to each Individual here, but I know what my situation is and what I have to lose. I’m not going to some camp to get disappeared, and I’m not letting anyone else in my family go either.

  • Just a reminder that Europe had the concept of “Changelings” for 2,000 years, where babies that suddenly changed and became difficult or antisocial were thought to have been replaced by a fairy. These babies were then left in the woods to “return them to the fairies”

This practice has been documented for thousands of years.

Autistic people have existed for thousands of years, just now we don’t call them changelings and abandon them in the forest.

  • Used cars are also entering a bubble.

Abused, falling apart, shit boxes are selling for what a decent used car was 5 years ago, and decent used cars are the price of a new car 5 years ago, yet basically no one is earning enough to afford the difference.

More auto loans are underwater than ever before, and a lot of them are for used cars. Eventually something’s gonna have to give.

There’s a reason that Obama pushed so hard to bail out the auto industry during the financial crisis. If the car market fails, it means less able bodied Americans will be able to get to their jobs due to how our entire country is structured. If the Auto industry fails, America will slowly grind to a halt.
