That’s how the military works. If a unit doesn’t work together and do as commanded, soldiers die. They may feel bad about what they’re doing, but their training will override that. They may suffer from PTSD in the future, of course.

They’re unhappy, but they’ll do as they’re told. They’ve been trained that way. Without that training, chaos would result.

Corporate media serves the regime. Support independent media while you still can.

Trump has eliminated oversight throughout the federal government. This is just one facet.

It’s going to get much, much worse, have no fear.

It doesn’t really seem like they have a choice, does it?

They’ll have jobs right up to the introduction of the next gen AI.

The planet is healing.

The past couple of years have not been good for the Secret Service’s reputation. They used to seem like they were the elite, now they come across as bad as any law enforcement organization.

Inertia, at least in some cases. It takes a lot of work to rebuild your audience. Leaving is accelerating, though, albeit slowly.

Sometimes, news is surprising.

This is not one of those times.

Beginners are the least likely to ask thoughtful questions. We include slides in lectures about how to ask a question, but when there’s an assignment deadline and you’re inexperienced, it’s more likely you’re going to just blurt out “help me!” rather than provide a detailed explanation that doesn’t require repeated prompting. It takes time to learn how to work through an issue yourself before asking. Students are often facing time pressure and that can drive bad behavior. Correcting them is important, just don’t do it in a way that crushes their spirit.

Ever ask a question on SO? I tell my students to search there but never, ever ask a question. The unmitigated hostility is not what new developers need or deserve. ChatGPT won’t humiliate you for asking a question that someone else has already asked.

Did the suspect denounce Trump? If not, why is the FBI involved?

The Democratic leadership seems convinced that they’re doing the right things despite ample evidence they’re not. Someone comes along and tries to get them to realize they’re on the wrong track and their immediate reaction is to shut them down/out. There’s no self awareness. There’s no introspection. Democracy itself was on the ballot in 2024 and they acted like it was just a normal election. They’re still acting that way. They’re responsible for this mess, and until they realize it and get their collective shit together it’s only going to get worse.

Black Mirror has its work cut out for it, that’s all I’ll say.
