Here’s the thing - I myself work in a factory, and I do exactly that - monitor the manufacturing line. I’m doing barely any hard/manual labor, most of the time I’m chilling around and I make more money than the average in my country, and since I’m in rural region where wages are naturally shit, I’m pretty much well off with said factory job. Used to work in IT, made around 30% more, but felt like I worked 200% more.

I’m getting paywalled now so can’t quote, but it’s more about states in general. There have been some major developments in manufacturing (especially robotics) that would allow US to jumpstart a new era of manufacturing/re-starting the industry and bring it away from China. By finding success, I believe he didn’t really mean grinding at some low entry job, but literally becoming a successful manufacturer (again?)

I’d actually say it was 8.1, but the problem with 8.1 is that it died before people could discover how good it is combined with classical start menu. It was basically a fleshed out, faster, more stable Windows 7 with updated tech like newer directx and cached boot (aka. Fastboot). Almost non-existing market share, but I liked it far better than 7, 10 and 11 (only gave it 1 week). I installed a tweaked 8.1 version on all my friends/family’s PCs and never heard a single complaint, shit was awesome.

I get your point, but the reality is that companies do actually put (well, started to) safeguards in place. I feel like I could get murdered on lemmy for saying this, but I was a ChatGPT subscriber for a year, up until last month. The amount of “Sorry Dave, I cannot do that” replies I recently started getting was ruining my experience. OpenAI recently implemented entire new system that transfers you to a different model if it detects something mental going on with you.

Seriously. There have been always people with mental problems or tendency towards self harm. You can easily find ways to off yourself on google. You can get bullied on any platform. LLMs are just a tool. How detached from reality you get by reading religious texts or ChatGPT convo highly depends on your own brain.

It’s like how entire genre of videogames are now getting censored because of few online incels.
