Wasn’t this obvious? He didn’t need to go “all-in on ai” cause there is hundreds of thousands of people who tried the same thing already and everyone of them could tell him that’s not what ai can do.

Come on, nobody is going to eliminate poverty. That’s not on the agenda.
Plus we don’t even have a road how to make robots that could make other robots.

Yes and it’s not new. There have been failed attempts to get out of Microsoft by governments and companies around the world for more than a decade. Its hard. The cost is huge, the benefit vague and distant.
The only reason why is gaining ground now it’s because US got really crazy. Not because of the cost of Windows licences. Not even because of invasive AI.

It’s very much true. W10 was cause of pressure from companies and countries, not because of the odd Joe contemplating their os.
Any company may fall, but they can also fail from inaction. Ms has the option to get data no one else can. They can’t afford not to.

They will be fine. They are second most valuable company in the world. They have money to throw around and their source of income still seem inexhaustible. A few new Linux users won’t even make a dent.
Sorry to be so blunt, but it’s the truth no matter what we are wishing for.
Awesome, thanks for the info! Great insights.
How do you mean running stuff in waydroid is hit and miss. Stuff just doesn’t work? And you mentioned signal not working and needing alternatives? Signal is my main chat app…
Does it feel cool to use it? Or is it still more troublesome than cool? 😎
Maybe you could write a bit more about your experience?

Id still want to double check😀.

When I first got internet in 95, it was easy to find stuff like that. I even made a website about making explosives for my computer class. Got a good grade for it and everything. Nobody said anything. Kind of weird if I think of it now. Anyway, making explosives as a hobby is a real bad decision. Most people understand that. The ones that don’t are not smart enough to make them. The ones that are smart enough and still want to make them, would not use chatgpt.

I think we can speculate with a high degree of confidence that it won’t influence their profit growth projections.

Thats not defeatism.
And that’s not sweeping the floor. That’s some weird smugness of being right while the house falls into disrepair. Worth nothing.

That’s true, but I don’t see it working. All these comedians/talk show hosts have been doing this for decades and that did nothing. Nothing. The opposite actually, normalizing abhorrent things by trivializing them for (a lot of times) cheap laughs.
What is going on is not a media matter for multi-millionaires to joke about on the billionaire tv networks.

That’s all cute, but what good will it do?
The right don’t care. Every minimal pressure they can exert will at minimal, at very minimal make people self censor themselves just a little bit more. That is what they want and they are succeeding marvellously.

Intentionally missing the point is not an argument in itself.

That’s not what you are doing at all. You are not laughing. Anti ai people are outraged, full of hatred and ready to pounce on anyone who isn’t as anti as they are. It’s a super emotional issue, especially on fediverse.
You may be confident, because you probably don’t know how software is built. Nobody is going to just abandon all the experience they have, vibe code something and release whatever. Thats not how it works.

I think people today, after having a year experience with ai know it’s capabilities reasonably well. My mother is 73 and it’s been a while since she stopped joking about what ai wrote to her that was silly or wrong, so people using computers at their jobs should be much more aware.
I agree about that llms are good at some things. They are great tools for what they can do. Let’s use them for those things! I mean even programming has benefitted a lot from this, especially in education, junior level stuff, prototyping, …
When using any product, a certain responsibility falls on the user. You can’t blame technology for what stupid users do.

Ok? So, what you are saying is that some lawyers are idiots. I could have told you that before ai existed.

No not really, just an observation. It literally said you are a boring person. Not sure whats not to get.
Bye.

Yeah, but … they also can’t just do nothing and possibly miss out on something. Especially if they already invested a lot.
In sure they will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the end.
