  • Pretty much why I’m anti-death-penalty in all cases. The state shouldn’t be allowed to deal death as a punishment, because there’s too much at stake. You can’t un-kill someone if you get things wrong, and prosecutors have a vested interest in, at the very least, not being wrong. Being right doesn’t matter, but being wrong can cost you your position or your credibility within the legal field. Killing the defendant wraps things up nicely because a corpse can’t defend itself, and it can’t say “I wasn’t there” or “I had nothing to do with this”, it can’t plead its own innocence - so you can put whatever words you like into their mouths and it plays perfectly with a jury.

  • They’d simply go to war with Germany if they tried to kick out the soldiers, I fear. The US military is the proverbial 800-lb gorilla, and like the joke goes, it will sit wherever it damn well pleases under Trump.

What are you gonna do, tell the most powerful land and air and sea military on Earth “hey, you need to not be here”? What are you gonna do if they say “no”? Sure, you can declare war on them (because that WOULD constitute an invasion). Then what?

  • I’m almost certain the reason a lot of these countries happily consented is so they can turn right back around and sell these people into slavery. They don’t have documents with them, they don’t need to be kept track of (at least from what the admin seems to care), they don’t speak the language more than likely, and they’re almost all middle class at best, meaning there’s practically no imminent risk to selling these people to, say, a VW plantation in Brazil, or Qatar, or wherever. It’s not like the DHS or the State Department is going to actually be mad at you if you lose them, they’ll just shrug and say “well sometimes people just go missing from foreign jails in countries known to engage in selling people into slavery, we can’t really do anything.”

  • All these people see which way the wind is blowing, and assume that Trump, by hook or by crook, will be out by next year. Vance has literally no center. He’s happy to take the cash from whoever and do whatever, even if it’s contradictory or straight up illegal. They’re all banking on Vance being in the chair by 2027, and they’re willing to potentially take the year of losses if it means they have a hollow shell of a human being to deadhand whatever’s in front of him.
