Wait, I heard about this and assumed the money had changed hands in the opposite direction. Why the fuck would Disney be paying OpenAI to use their intellectual property? That’s not how that has ever worked.

Watching Technology Connections recent final (probably not final) video on dishwashers made me really want an open source dishwasher where you can program your own cycles. Maybe over the next few years hacking appliances will become common, doing what Valetudo has done for robot vacuums.

Yeah. I’m not saying I like it or that it’s how it should be. It’s just how it is. I basically go to reddit last these days.

Niche communities that simply don’t exist on Lemmy. If your only hobbies are tech, lemmy probably covers all of your bases, but there are nearly no niche non-tech communities here.

A baby monitor is for a small child, a babe monitor is for the bedroom.

The Linux approach did take some getting used to, of course, but mounting drives to folders just makes too much sense. The only qualm I’ve had with it is if the drive doesn’t get mounted and stuff gets written to that folder, which, AFAIK, isn’t possible in windows.
Also, tbf (and balanced), windows also supports mounting drives to folders iirc, it’s just a weird way to do it.

You’d be excited for a Linux distro that’s less open and owned by Google? Forget about the AI, why would I want Android on my PC where better alternatives exist?
Extracting a stripped Phillips is way worse than running to the store for a set of torx bits haha
What’s wrong with Torx? Better than phillips innit?
My grandpa bought a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 25 years ago. He kept it up, and now it’s mine. It was a top trim luxury car when it was new, and it has screws exposed on things like the A pillars. My 1993 Subaru Loyale also has exposed screws everywhere. It’s so fucking nice, as compared to my newer vehicles where I break 17 plastic tabs off trying to remove the A pillar trim. It’s asinine, exposed screws look dope.

I don’t think my company is evil, but it’s definitely not my favorite industry.
The phone you use on your personal time isn’t, and if an employer mandates that you use an iPhone, they’d better buy it for you.
I absolutely hate that. I’d rather just not be friends with those people. I’d think less of them if they’re not smart enough to use a messaging group that works on more than one type of phone.
The fact that there’s a lock in at all pisses me off enough that I’d force our group to change apps or exclude me, I’d be doing them a favor imo. I’d be more polite about it, of course, but I have no use for closed ecosystems that only work on one device, and I’m not quiet about it. I don’t care what device you use, even if it’s an apple device, but don’t use software that doesn’t also work on other devices.
I also can’t wait for a Linux phone, I’m tired of Google’s involvement with Android. I also don’t like Google and Samsung devices. The nice thing is that you can choose others.
Switching phones is easy or doable for everyone, assuming you just switch when you’re upgrading your phone anyways.

OneWheel is the manufacturer.

One wheels aren’t shit for being dangerous, they’re shit for bricking the device if you try to replace the fucking battery, as well as other anti-consumer practices.

Yeah, I don’t wanna go through the proper training to actually be a useful gun carrying person. I also don’t want to carry a gun. Between those two things, I haven’t bought one. If I weren’t a straight I might have to reconsider.
Ngl I think the concept is kinda funny.
