Probably more ammo, with a state Supreme Court comment allowing discrimination under guise of religious liberty. To have that opinion backed by the highest Court of a state somewhat legitimizes their case and may put more pressure on the conservative justices to allow sex-based discrimination again.

With pop music, maybe. They arent written to be appealing in and of themselves. Pop music is a pretty strict style and structure with the same bass line and same few chords. Then they are played on the radio ad nauseum, so that when it’s first released you become familiar with the song enough to like it. As a batch of pop songs start to become old, another batch is released with similar style and structure. There’s hardly anything new.
In order to keep people excited about a pop song that went through that life cycle 10+ years ago, there needs to be more. Don’t forget that there are quite a few pop performers who rely on auto tune because they can’t sing in tune, so they are just lip-syncing on stage. I’m sure some of the spectacle is also to keep the performers going and energetic during performances of the same pop crap they’ve toured with for more than a decade.

They already overturned Roe v Wade and Thomas has said to bring cases to overturn marriage rights on the basis of race and sexual orientation. I’m a little surprised they aren’t also going after the right to work for the LGBT community, since we only just won that right in 2020.

People needed to get out and vote. To say gun control stopped democrats from voting Beto is insane. Beto lost by a mere 215,000 votes, that’s about 2/3 the population of a suburb in any of the metro areas. We need democrats to pay any amount of attention and engage voters here.

A large portion of the Texan population holds that their vote is worthless and won’t take 20-30 minutes to go vote. Beto O’Rourke was so close to beating Cruz and then last time Cruz was up for election of ~23 million in the voting age population, ~18 million were registered to vote, and ~11.3 million actually voted. There were some Trump voters that didn’t vote for Cruz, but we didn’t get enough Democrats out to vote and defeat Cruz.
It’s frustrating to see what all is at stake and still see people sit at home instead of waking up early one day to go vote when polls open at 7 AM.
Only immediate consequences. The gerrymandering they want to pass has the potential to screw the state and country depending on how the gerrymandering works and is perceived to work. I’m afraid this may make our voting numbers go down even more.
No telling what can happen if Republicans achieve their goal of solidifying a bigger majority in the US House. We’ve already seen that Texans are willing to keep Cruz in the senate, rather than spend 30 minutes voting.

They’re probably the same people that insist on calling pigs in a blanket, a kolache. A kolache, being a pastry filled with fruit, is a food first made in TX by Czech immigrants. It’s so disappointing when places say they have kolaches and it’s actually just pigs in a blanket.
Without them, we might have been able to boot Cruz from office a few years back when Beto was running. According to an exit poll at the time, native Texans largely for Beto and those that moved here largely voted for Cruz.

Sessions only take place for a few months every other year. To override a veto from Abbott in July 2025, the legislature would need to wait until early 2027. In order for the legislature to act more quickly to override a veto, they would need the power to call a session or there would need to be rules added to address the vetoes that take place after the legislative session is over. I suppose the governor could be given a deadline to sign, veto, or refuse to take action on a bill a certain number of days after the conclusion of a session and the legislature could have a mini session to discuss the bills that were vetoed or where action wasn’t taken for a predetermined amount of time after the governor’s deadline.
The governor has the power to call a special session between normal sessions to address issues. Those issues are supposed to be outlined before the special session starts. Obviously he’s not going to call a session to address a bill that was vetoed unless it was maybe vetoed over a couple small points.
They would need to have another session to vote to override the veto. So they’d also need a mechanism to reconvene, given they are only in session for 140 days every other year.
By extending that session or adding another, the legislators would need more time off from their other jobs potentially at a pay cut. Legislator are only paid for time in session.
Then legislative positions would be even more inaccessible to those not already wealthy.
