Gamers nexus blocks updates on every test round. When they do update their test systems they block updates and retest all hardware in their charts. The software is also the same, besides platform or driver specific software. They truly go for reproducible and as less unknown factors as possible, hence the discussion

The benelux media tweakers.net has tested the failing ssd on linux, and yes it did fail there too. They were saying temperature might have been a factor since in windows the temperatures were higher than linux, but something was off ye.
If this is a case of prerelease firmware being shipped and killing it under load because of temps, thats baaaddd.

The limitations isnt in the lpddr5x ram, but in the sodimm interface.

Iirc this was due to the design of the chip. Framework said the bandwidth needed for the strix halo is waaaaaaayyyyy faster than the bandwidth of the sodimms that laptops have.
Hence they made the desktop, only thing they could think of doing with those classes of apu’s

The yoink is not needed. We have a policy to get a new laptop every 4 years. After that the laptop is all ours once formatted on site ( to make sure no company or customer details get leaked ). This is how my brother got my old dell xps, which he really needed for his education

The other laptops arent finished yet. Framework is super expensive , even compared to other gaming laptops.
I think its worth it, but thats not the opinion of a lot of casual people.
And had i not gotten one via my job, i would not have gotten a framework 16 because of the price

Except you technically can. Windows 11 registry allows for installation without secure boot and its called after the upgrade process, thats what things like rufus patch to allow it.
Now idk if secure boot has to be enabled for windows 10 to consider it upgrade ready, but its technically all in there

Except all problems of a windows system werent on win7. Bloat? Minimal, was mostly the theme that was heavy but could be disabled. Forced updates? Didnt exist yet. Hardware requirements? A running pc. Half assed new ui? Didnt exist yet. Confusing configs that were all over the place? Nope, started in win8 and 10. Software comparability? 90% hell yes.

Win7 was a polished vista, with loads of bloat removed, performance improvements and 1000% more stable.
Win8 started screwing with shit and moving stuff partly and it went downhill from there.

And im also comparing it to os’ of the time. Clearly with todays tech id pick a linux over win7 anyday, but in those days win7 was king

Tbf, win7 was the best os i ever used. Only to be royally fucked by win8, win10 and win11. Oh how it has fallen…
