I’ve noticed the same. I also find that I am way less susceptible to certain group dynamics than the average person seems to be. I don’t care about fitting in with the in-crowd or doing the thing everyone else is doing and the bystander effect seems to be nearly absent for me too.
I strongly suspect that those things are very related to neurodivergence in my case. My brain just brains differently.

Hey, they chose to offer free labor for a company that has proven time and time again to not give a crap about the mods or the users. I get why they are complaining but I at least hope that they aren’t surprised or expect that their complaints will do anything.

Water use comes out to about 150.000 chatGPT queries per quarter pounder. Using 10ml per prompt and 15.000l per kg of beef.
Still off by many orders of magnitude.
Also that’s just the running costs. If we go into training we’re looking at a comparison the other way around. Training GPT-3 cost 700.000 liters of water. So that’s 466.6 quarter pounders.
I did a quick calculation and got to around 500 queries per quarter pounder. Lot of guesstimation and rounding though, but I’m pretty sure I got close enough to know that you’re off by quite a lot.
Edit to add: I used 21.9kg CO2 per 1kg of beef and 4.32 grams per ChatGPT query for my rough estimate.
However that 4.32 number is already over a year old. Chances are it’s way outdated but everyone still keeps on quoting it. It definitely does not take into account that ChatGPT often “thinks” now, because chain of thought is likely as expensive as multiple queries by itself. Additionally the models are more advanced than a year ago, but also more costly and that CO2 amount everyone keeps quoting doesn’t even mention which model they used. If anyone can find the original source of this number I’d be very curious.
So when people tell you about the pointing out the positive changes they’ve made you in return like to point out that they still aren’t living up to your standards? I’m not sure that’s the way to go to motivate and inspire people to do better. But you do you I guess.
Whataboutism isn’t useful. Nobody is living the perfect life. Every improvement we can make towards a more sustainable way of living is good. Everyone needs to start somewhere and even if they never move to make more changes at least they made the one.
Pretty sure you’re right that there’s more articles about cis people being “inconvenienced”. However I can think of at least 3 reasons off of the top of my head:
there are way more cis people than trans people. While I strongly suspect that a larger percentage of the trans community is affected compared to cis people, purely by numbers it’s still more likely to affect cis people more frequently just because there’s so much more of them. Depending on which statistics you listen to only 0.5% - 3% of people are trans.
trans people (and especially the ones who do not pass particularly well) are more likely to avoid public bathrooms now. Cis people are more likely to not expect any issues and not think twice.
Apparently a decently large part of the right wing voter base would agree with trans people being denied entry into bathrooms. It’s what people decided this “law” was for in the first place (not that that this law was even applicable here). However if you show those same people that someone they empathize with also is negatively affected that’s more likely to lead to change.
With a couple of governments making the switch I honestly think that things are changing to some degree. Will windows die and be forgotten by everyone overnight? Of course not. But I think there’s a real chance their piece of the pie will start to shrink noticeably. Chrome OS is dominating in schools for a few years now and Microsoft is seemingly trying hard to alienate the current windows users.

Good call. I have 2 hard dives and really thought that if I didn’t touch the win 11 drive it couldn’t possibly cause windows issues. Lol. Not making that mistake again.
Good for you! Nuking windows is indeed the end goal. Dual boot for me is a proof of concept as a step on the way.
I use a lot of adobe programs, like photoshop, illustrator and Lightroom. The standard MS office stuff and a bunch of games both via steam and the EA AppStore, some of which are windows only. Mind you, I know most if not all should work using wine (or similar) or have good alternatives. But I’d rather try first before nuking windows.
I tried setting up a dual boot Mint next to my Win 11 last night. Just so I can experiment with getting all the (replacement) programs of my Win 11 install to work on there… froze during install and was busy for hours getting my boot files for Win 11 back.
I’m not a technical genius or anything and now I’m scared to try again. I assume it’s way easier if I would just rip the bandaid off and do it in one go. Sadly too much relies on me still being able to use the computer close to the way I could before. Ah well. Another day, another chance to nuke the boot files.
My volunteering group won’t switch away from WhatsApp :( doesn’t help that half of our volunteers are over the age of 55. It’s the only reason I still have the damn app installed.
For people in the same or a similar boat: reduction is better than nothing. I got all my other contacts to switch over to signal. It’s only that one volunteer group left.
