The boy’s beating in 2023 at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall was captured on surveillance video that also showed several officials standing idly by and some of them shaking hands with the participants in the beating.
A state grand jury in March charged 30 correctional officers for their role in allowing and sometimes encouraging nearly 70 fights to take place between July and December 2023. The officers face charges including child endangerment and abuse, conspiracy, and battery.
More than 140 victims between the ages of 12 and 18 were involved, according to authorities.
“Until we actively start changing the mindset and behavior of those who are put into a caretaking responsibility of these youth, I think we’re going to find ourselves in the same situation,” (attorney, Jamal Tooson) said.
How broken are the people who work there that they can view their child prisoners fighting as entertainment?
It is a well understood phenomena that prison guards are among the worst people.
It’s been made very clear in the US that prisoners, regardless of age, aren’t considered ppl
We’ve completely forsaken the idea that prison is a place of reform and instead use it as a place of revenge and torture for anyone even suspected of committing a crime.
Juvenile detention facilities often have harsher treatments than jails or prisons. Something about the criminals being young makes people think they need to be treated harsher. I’m remembering shows like “brat camp” and “scared straight” that reveled in the torment of “troublemakers” and would punish them harsher than fullgrown adults who commit worse crimes.
And now these fucks will get slaps on the wrist and a paid vacation as punishment, why do judges have no humanity in them at all, I would use everything available in the book to permanently ruin these “officers” lives and make an example out of them if I had the power to pass judgements
If orchestrating child prisoner gladiator fights is wrong, then I don’t want to be right!
